Meet Atef E. Rafla, M.D

Atef E. Rafla, M.D. is a board-certified anesthesiologist with over 20 years of specialized experience in pain management. He currently serves as the Medical Director of Coastline Surgery Center. He is the owner of Coast Pain Management and Unified Physician Associates in Santa Ana, California, where he provides comprehensive care as a Primary Treating Physician with a focus on chronic pain, spine injuries, trauma, and surgical interventions.

Dr. Rafla earned his M.D. from Ain Shams University School of Medicine in Cairo, Egypt, in 1989. He completed both his internship and residency in anesthesiology with specialization in pain management at the University of Southern California. He became board-certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology in 1999.

Fluent in English, Arabic, and medical Spanish, Dr. Rafla brings a culturally sensitive and multilingual approach to patient care. His diverse clinical background includes extensive experience in anesthesiology, industrial and occupational medicine, workers’ compensation, and fluoroscopic-guided procedures.

Dr. Rafla has contributed to a variety of research studies, including publications on anesthetic techniques and pain management practices. He is a member of several medical societies, including the Egyptian Medical Syndicate and the Christian Medical Society.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Rafla enjoys tennis, racquetball, fishing, and swimming.
